Analysing volcanic rock in high definition
Quantify trace species from large samples.During volcanic eruptions lava is extruded which may have a variety of chemical and structural compositions. In this example, an inVia Raman microscope was successfully employed to quantify the relative amount of quartz and cristobalite within a Mount St. Helens thin section taken from edifice rock.
