The OMI has the added benefit of supplying totem pole (transistor) output, thus eliminating the need for a separate MI 12 interface. The OMI operates Renishaw's legacy transmission method. This has recently been superseded by a new modulated optical transmission method, which provides the highest level of resistance to signal interference from other light sources in the machine environment.
